As if my amazing ride into motherhood could not get any wilder, I stumbled across PregnantChicken.com with an article that spoke to my soul. Author Amanda Lane Cumming brilliantly describes wisdom gained from her first four months of motherhood (she made amazing points!).
So, inspired by her gut-provoking honesty, here are my top 15 truths learned from my first three months of motherhood.
- My nursing chair has turned into a legit Command Center! I am now a pro at asking and directing my life – and possibly the universe – as I nurse my baby. That, dear friends, includes asking various family members to organize sock drawers, start a load of laundry and answer my emails.
- And speaking of breast feeding – it is a huge commitment and constant work. It came relatively easy for me; however, I totally get the frustrations that can come with it.
- I didn’t feel that overwhelming love right at birth, but it comes. It is a rush of love quite beyond words and utterly indescribable.
- Nap time is golden time. Whoever gave the advice to sleep ‘when your baby sleeps’ either has never had a baby or has a full time nanny, housekeeper and chef.
- I researched hours upon hours of sleep training. Incredibly, once I followed my baby’s cues, everything got easier.
- Instacart and UberEats are my best friends. I thank the technology gods for Instacart and wonder how moms survived without this. My hat is off to all moms who managed new motherhood without this.
- When he smiles, the world stops. Period.
- When he laughs, my heart skips a beat.
- Seriously, no more judgment for stay at home moms. Working and being a new mom is no joke.
- Babies love selfies.
- Baby-wearing is the new LBD. Yoga wear is my new post postpartum uniform.
- Ever watch a baby sleeping? It melts your heart and sends you into another dimension.
- Babies tell you what they need. I have learned to listen to him, filter out advice and follow my heart. There really are no rules.
- Babies change your sense of time. A fifteen minute shower feels like a spa vacation.
- You become that annoying person who constantly posts baby pictures on social media. Yup, I get you!
- BONUS:
The newborn stage can be exhausting….but there is a moment where it all changes: life transforms and so do you.
