I wrote this message a while ago and was deciding whether or not to share something so deeply personal. We live in a climate where people over-share or carefully curate their lives to be shared with people they don’t know. Although, I am certainly part of this social media generation, I still had my reservations. In finally deciding to share this intimate letter, I was inspired by so many people who have shared their deeply personal moments in a raw and UN-retouched manner.

When embarking on this new journey of pregnancy, you are filled with so many emotions, feelings, worries, expectations and then scour the internet to wonder if you are alone. While doing so, I was moved by so many stories that led me to appreciate the women who are honest about their own path, being deeply personal at times. When we share the truth of what we feel and who we are, no matter what the journey is, we are reminded that our stories, happiness, struggles, and triumphs are connected. We are all going through the same ups and downs and we are reminded that life is not always the perfectly posed photo on our timelines.

So, below is a letter of my deepest hopes and feelings for the soul residing within me. This is for him or her (because at the moment we do not know the gender) and I am sharing it here in appreciation to so many people who have shared their raw feelings of love as a modern “message in a bottle” floating in the internet sea.

 

 

To the unborn soul residing within me

At this very moment you are in the safest and most beautiful space you will be in your entire life. In this space, I hold you close and protected. In this space, you are connected to the sound of my heart and to the rhythm of my movement. It is now that I want to express my hopes, dreams and deepest thoughts before you enter this crazy, exciting and beautiful world. But first, let me thank you for this journey so far.

Let me thank you for the serenity, calmness, understanding and focus you have offered by living in my womb. You have tossed and turned at hours that I would have preferred to rest.  You have nudged me in places I preferred you wouldn’t but I am grateful for those moments as they are little reminders that I must accept what I cannot control. You are preparing me for the roller coaster ride we are about to embark on together. Your presence has centered me and kept me grounded. Thank you for those moments of complete awareness and may I continue to experience them with you for a lifetime.

I hope that as you are in the womb listening to the rhythm of my heart, you continue to remain close to that rhythm long after your arrival.

May you give me sweet reminders when you are young and fussy that these moments will not last forever. As you grow older, you will cry for me less and enjoy your independence more.

As you develop, remind us that we have no “owner’s manual”, that life unfolds in perfect order and that together we must observe, stay present and remain close to our inner knowing where only greatness lies.

May you discover your dreams on your own and that we simply provide you with guidance to find the answers you already own.

May we give you a vast space of love and discovery as you experience life according to your divine plan.

When you are tested in life, may you know that we are never too far away to guide you and to remind you that every test is a sacred lesson to arm you with wisdom and strength as you flow through life.

May we always teach you that you cannot fail because failure is not who you are. Every obstacle and perceived set-back is an opportunity, a call to be more aware, conscious and wise in your decisions.

May we condition less, watch more, and observe your greatness unfold.

Always remember your dreams and aspirations are yours to conquer. Follow you inner calling. When you are connected with this deep knowing, you’re unstoppable.

May you always question everything (even us), seek the truth, and connect with your heart at every moment.

I want so much to pass along my wisdom and lessons learned; but in truth, you are here to give us yours.
