10 Reasons That Tea is the Most Relaxing Drink on Earth

1. You can have it your way, how do you want it?

Whether you enjoy a subtle white tea, or a flavourful rooibos, whether you like a slice of lemon and honey mixed in or au naturel, whether you like it piping hot and freshly steeped or you prefer an ice cold glass of iced green sun tea that’s been waiting for you all day, there’s something for everyone in the world of tea.

2. You can always find a cup of tea.

Tea is the most popular drink on earth (besides water), and no matter where you are you’re never very far from a glass of tea. A small café in Paris, a truck stop in Mississippi, any restaurant on earth, and even every coffeeshop – they’ll have a cup of tea waiting for you. It’s never stressful to find tea.

3. Tea is easier to make than coffee.

Even in its simplest forms, you need some sort of contraptions to brew coffee, even if you’re using a French press or making a drip. All you need for tea is a cup and a tea bag (Or if you prefer loose leaf, you’ll need something to hold the leaves while you steep, if you want to get technical.)

4. Tea gives you a direct connection to the earth.

As a modern monk, you understand that we’re always in a constant struggle between the distractions and complexities of modern life and the simple joys of yesteryear. Sitting down with a warm cup of tea grown from the earth, especially if you have the opportunity to sip it somewhere outside with a nice view, is a great way to plug back into nature and to appreciate the things that really matter in life.

5. Tea brings people together.

Tea is the perfect excuse to meet with friends both old and new. It makes a great first date because it’s affordable, casual, and leaves the door open for an easy exit if things aren’t going great.

6. It’s always teatime.

Different types of tea have varying degrees of caffeine, there are teas that you can drink first thing in the morning for that extra little jolt to get the day started, and there are teas with very little (or no) caffeine at all to help you unwind at the end of the tea. Not to mention herbal teas, which aren’t necessarily made from tea leaves at all.

7. Don’t forget about the health benefits!

There are many studies that shine a light on so many benefits of tea, mostly stemming from the drink’s antioxidant properties. We’ll leave it up to you to do your own research on the various benefits, but one of the nice things about tea is that it leaves the door open for so many different combinations of herbs, spices and leaves that all have their own unique healing properties such as turmeric tea, green tea (considered one of the healthiest varieties), cinnamon tea, and many more.

8. Tea is more than just a drink; it is a lifestyle.

Tea isn’t just a drink; tea is a big part of a calm, happy and relaxing life. The drink embodies ancient wisdom, such as slowing down and taking time to smell the roses, so to speak. When you sip tea, it’s a way to reconnect. It can be a form of meditation, a ritual in your busy day, and a great little pick me up. Tea and yoga go hand in hand.

9. Tea can improve your workouts.

Exercising is absolutely a great way to relax. Maybe not in the heat of the moment, but afterwards for sure. Tea has been shown to help with endurance and overall athletic performance which means that getting the most out of your workout can make your moments of relaxation that much more satisfying. The catechins in green tea are believed to help with the way that your body turns fat into energy.

10. What’s YOUR favorite reason to drink tea?

We’re leaving this last one open for audience participation. Leave a comment and let us know some of your favorite reasons to enjoy a cup of tea, and some of the ways that tea helps you to relax.

Tea always gave me the feeling of “home”, warmth and connecting to myself and others. Being spiritual and present at the same time while enjoying a cup of tea. Different flavors bring different memories, feeling and deep emotions. I always enjoy tea before and after meditation. It helps my energy flow and understand that spirituality is not something “outside of this world” but one with it. Modern monks will feel what I am talking about! Great article!
