Become a pH Gangsta: Healthy Living through your pH

heathy-living

Hi friends,

What’s a gangster in 2014? I’m taking the negativity out of the word and saying a gangster is someone who is “about it.” Someone who works hard, doesn’t sweat the small stuff, and hustles in any task given. So why should you not take your precious health as seriously as you take anything else? Be “about it” and hustle in obtaining your best healthy self possible.

So without further ado, I have a big secret to achieving and sustaining optimal Health … that’s Health with a big H. Lean in close … Simply by balancing your body’s pH levels, you can avoid chronic disease. Well, it may not be a secret for most, but in case you forgot this simple little aspect to a healthy lifestyle, here is your Chem 101 class coming right back at ya.

Just like caring for your pool by testing and balancing its pH, your body works in a similar way. Your body is filled with fluids, the most vital fluid being blood, and its pH tells you how acidic or alkaline you are. It runs on a scale from 0 to 14. A body that is highly acidic is 0, while alkaline is 14. And of course, neutral would be lucky number 7. Some “experts” believe that our body’s pH naturally levels out at 7.35 to 7.45. While that may be true for some who live a plant-based, toxic-free life, many of us are eating, drinking, and behaving in ways that make our bodies acidic and therefore susceptible to illness.

Some doctors fail to mention this crucial secret to optimal health or deny it completely. I always recommend checking your sources, teachers, and health care professionals.
In checking, you want to be sure to follow the money trail. My theory is that doctors do not promote this simple and effective means of getting healthy because we would just have way too many unfilled prescription pads lying around (get my gist here?).

Back to the good stuff, pH … Alkaline is good, and acidic is bad. Pretty simple, right? The pH level in cancer patients is 4. Disease thrives on acidic environments. It is always best to eat foods high on the alkaline side and to eat minimal or avoid acidic foods. Below is a helpful infographic so you can visualize how your body’s pH level changes according to what you eat.

Ponder This:

The American diet is packed with contaminated meat and “edible lab food.” This diet has so graciously offered us a rise in heart disease and diabetes, among others. Just think, most people wake up and then have a coffee, one of the most acidic drinks available. We spend six to eight hours sleeping, then break the fast by putting a cup of acidic joe in our empty stomachs. No wonder we are sick. Add a little morning news to our heightened coffee buzz and bam!—stressed before 9:00 a.m.! Did I mention stress contributes to your body’s ability to stay alkalized naturally?

pH for Weight Loss:

I once had someone ask me, “Wow, Vicky! How did you do it? You’re in great shape.” While I bashfully said thanks to this compliment, the truth is she was right. I have never felt and looked so good in my life. Yes, I thankfully passed the keg stand college phase and entered the young adult world where alcohol was no longer needed as a social lubricant. However, my metabolism was slowing down, and yet I was getting fitter and healthier each day, partly thanks to the countless downward dogs and partly thanks to eating food high on the alkaline scale.

Simply by switching to an alkalized diet, anyone can make a lasting change in the weight-loss struggle. In fact, it won’t be a struggle at all. Once I focused on food that fed my body what it needed to fight illnesses and kept my energy high and my mood stable, weight falling off just came naturally. You see, the trick here is to focus on health and not looks. Once you switch your attention, you will have made a lifestyle change for good rather than a temporary diet fad, which doesn’t provide lasting results.

As always, I encourage you to do your research. There are still numerous people out there who just don’t believe in the pH topic. I’ve seen it work, and so I’m expressing what makes sense for me. Drink more veggie juice and less Coca-Cola. Seems pretty logical.

Gratefully Alkalined,

Victoria
