In honor of the New Year and personal growth, here are five simple and progressive steps we can be reminded to take every moment:

Me, taking it easy.
1. Take It Easy
Practice not sweating the small stuff. Life happens, challenges occur, but luckily, we are 100% in control of our response. Being nonreactive is difficult, but if you start by simply noticing your reaction, you’ll begin to shed yourself of any dramatic response. In each moment, take the conscious decision to observe your thoughts.
2. Get Success Out of Your Resolution Vocabulary
As Danielle LaPorte explains in her book, The Desire Map, “success” can be a detrimental word because we tend to buy into other people’s version of it. We lose our own meaning of success and unconsciously place it on what we see on our social news feed and the media. Ironically, “success” disconnects us from our core desire feelings, so toss that word in the trash for 2014 or be sure to have a very clear definition of what success means to you.
3. Get Inspired
Find out what makes you tic and gets you excited. Is it music, sports, art, movies? Find inspiration in some of your favorite hobbies. Watch inspirational videos and put yourself in inspiring environments; it’s amazing how finding out what inspires you opens your heart and ignites passion. I am always finding music that is creative, unique, and concious to help inspire my path of awareness.
4. Sit, Be Still, and Breathe
This can be a toughie for most, but if you start with five minutes a day and work your way up, you’ll quickly see how adopting a meditative practice improves focus, clarity, and presence. When we become more present, our awareness expands, and with that, life appears extraordinarily vivid. Your goals, desires, and connections become remarkably coherent and juicy.

5. Dance
Or do whatever gets your body moving. You already know that exercise releases endorphins, so get them flowing by doing any movement that calls to you. Most people are not excited about working out, but everyone has fun dancing! The best practice to adopt is dancing alone. You are more inclined to let loose and be free when no one is watching. When you dance alone, you begin to smile at yourself, and that, my friends, is beautiful. So, shake what your mama gave ya!
